  1. The Capitol holds the Hunger Games to remind the districts of its absolute power and control. The Games also serve to recall the ultimate destruction of District Thirteen and the Capitol's ability to repeat the massacre.

  2. The Capitol is the most powerful place in Panem. They destroyed District 13 and they know that anything they say goes. I agree with Owen that the Capitol wants power but I also think that the controller's get bored because they have everything they could ever want while all other districts work at least a little bit. Of course we know that the Capitol os where they bring the tributes but also, the arenas could be in another district or not the capitol.

  3. From the ruins of North America rose a powerful capitol in a region of the globe called Panem. Surrounding the capitol there are originally thirteen distinct districts, each controlled by the capitol. When rebellious behavior in district 13 threatens the capitol, the district is obliterated. The capitol does this in part to provide proof of their prodigious wealth, power, and ability, but also to quickly distinguish a force that could quite possible overcome the capitol. The Hunger Games are a way to ensure citizens of Panem that yes, the capitol holds more power and ruthless force than you could ever hope to imagine, and yes, the capitol uses said power and force annually, in the form of the Hunger Games. I think that these people, the citizens of Panem, live in daily fear because they know that the capitol can and will harm them for any wrongdoing or rebellion against the city. Until there is a rebellion again, the Hunger Games will serve as a constant reminder of the control that the capitol is not willing to share.

  4. I agree with all of you. I also think it is possible that has a slightly barbaric mindset in which they thrive off of the Hunger Games. Katniss' prep team are example of capitol people whose lives are engulfed by the thrill of the Hunger Games. I don't know if you've seen this movie but the Truman Show is similar to the Hunger Games. The Truman Show is all about a TV show that follows the man (Truman) from his birth on. The entire show is about Truman's life and he has no idea he is on camera. The make things happen to make the show more interesting such as killing off characters and causing natural disasters. People watch the show night and day as if it was his or her life instead of Truman's. I think the Capitol people have this same mind set.

  5. Nice thinking, Caroline! I had not thought of the Hunger Games from that point of view. Great work on the answers, everyone. They look superb. Please remember to check spelling and grammar!
