Chapter 23- evaluating

Defend Peeta and his lack of ability while hunting.

  1. Peeta cannot hunt because his leg is severly, though temporarily injured and his mind is fogged by the recent events he has endured. Peeta was never made to hunt. He is a baker's son, and he has always had bread on the table, although it is the burned sort. Peeta has not had a luxurious life, but he has not needed to be counted on for his family's survival, so it is acceptable that his hunting skills are not anywhere near as well honed as those Katniss displays.

  2. Peeta is also a much larger person than Katniss. He is also walking on an injured leg. Peeta's strong point may not be stealth, but he has valid excuses as to not living up to the expectations of Katniss.

  3. Peeta cannot be judged to harshly because he has an injured leg and is inexperienced at being quiet. It is clear that he is trying his hardest to be quiet and feels horrid that he cant to it right. Peeta is also good for everything Katniss is not. He can make very convincing camouflage and can be used for simple tasks like gathering veggies.

  4. Peeta unintentionally makes an excessive amount of noise while hunting for a few reasons. He has an injured leg and can't control it too well. Also he has never hunted ,or even had the need to sneak around, in his life so he has no practice.Peeta is built for strength, not stealth. he would be helpful carrying meat, but not finding it. Katniss should go a little easier on him given these facts.
