Chapter 4- Understanding
In Chapter 4, Haymitch is intoxicated to the extent or vomiting. Interview Haymitch at that moment and reflect what you and Haymitch are saying and thinking. Incorporate the questions that you ask in the interview and how Haymitch might respond.
I'm not sure how you want us to answer this, Olivia, seeing that Haymitch is extremely drunk and could potentially say anything.
ReplyDeleteYou are interviewing him when he is sober but reflecting on that intoxicated moment.
ReplyDeleteThanks to a recent interview with Haymitch, I have gained some insight on his behavior. It is widely known in district 12 that Haymitch is an alcoholic. Yesterday at the reaping he took his drunkenness to a new level. Here is how our interview went.
ReplyDeleteQ: Haymitch, how do you feel about being knocked out on national television?
A: I was drunk and was thinking straight, but I liked the opportunity to taunt the capitol.
Q: I'm just going to forget that you just said that. I heard that you also had quite an episode with your new tributes on the train. Can you tell me about that?
A: Effie upset because I didn't have much faith in our tributes. How could I, though? We're talking about district 12! no one wins from district 12. Anyway, I might have thrown up a bit, and then somehow I was in a bed. I don't se why you need to know this.
Q: The Capitol likes to stay tuned, thats all. Thanks for your time.
Panem Chronicle
ReplyDeleteHaymitch Abernathy, a past winner of the Hunger Games, is the mentor for the two District Twelve tributes this year. Haymitch will help train the tributes and provide essential advice for them to succeed in the deadliest event in Panem.
PC: Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are the District Twelve tributes this year. Do you think they have a chance at winning the Games?
HA: Well, that Katniss is pretty good with weaponry, and Peeta, well, he can make a nice bread.
PC: So do you think they have a strategy planned?
HA: Yes. I have helped them with their strategy. it's a winning one, but sorry, it's top secret.
PC: A source tells us that you have promised to remain sober to train your tributes. Is that true?
HA: Uh, well, where did you hear that? I never promised anything. You have no business in my private life.
PC: Maybe you were intoxicated when you made that promise.
HA: What exactly are you saying? That I'm a drunk? I'm the only chance those kids have at winning. There. Are we finished?
PC: Not quite. How did you win the Hunger Games?
HA: Why are you wasting my time? Watch the tape! I don't have time for this.
PC: Well, thank you for your insight.
That was a much better response than mine.
ReplyDeleteHere's my go...
ReplyDeleteFrom a recent interview with past District twelve hunger games champion, Haymitch Abernathy.
Q: So, Mr. Abernathy, you won the Games before. What do you think the chance of one of the District Twelve tributes winning this year?
A: About twenty four to two, now can I have my drink?
Q:No, not yet. At the end of the interview. Okay? Now, for the next question. What was going on at the reaping? You were in pretty bad shape, right?
A: That? Huh...yeh, I guess I was. I don't really like reaping days, they bring back too many memories. If y'know what I mean.
Q: Yes...I'm sorry. Ms Trinket's reaction to you was rather extreme and barely controlled. Does she always react like that toward you, or only when you're drunk?
A: That's not very Polite, now is it? I'm not Gonna answer any more questions until I get my drink!
Q: Fine. You'll get your drink. Just one more question-
A:I SAID NO!!!!
Q: Okay! Okay! Thank you for answering the few of my questions that you did.
Q: I was startled at your appearance and that you let the audience see you like that. Why would you EVER make such a fool of yourself?
ReplyDeleteA: Naturally, I did not want my district to lose as they have done since I was champion. I couldn't bear the site of Katniss and Peta only to know they were going to die. So, as that was the most probable outcome I drank my problems away...at least, i tried to.
Q: Why did you show up so late at the reapings?
A: Oh...I was trying to get the courage to be there. Just like every year since I was picked...it takes courage.
Q: Why of course I understand your nervousness, but don't you think that it is embarrassing to appear drunk at the reapings?
A: Well, would you rather show up drunk? Or not at all?
Q: Ah, well thank you for your time.
A: No problem (Haymitch's voice slowly decreases as the interview goes on.)
